FORMER LEEDS Rhinos hooker Robbie Ward will not be rushed into action, Featherstone Rovers coach Jon Sharp says.

Ward joined Rovers last week, on a deal until the end of the season, following a spell playing in Australia.

He did not feature in the 31-0 Kingstone Press Championship victory at Dewsbury Rams two days ago and Sharp said Sunday’s Summer Bash showdown with Halifax in Blackpool may also be too early for the returnee.

“He got off the plane last Tuesday and trained on Tuesday night,” Sharp said.

“It was far too early to be considered for the Dewsbury game.

“We will see how he goes this week, but he has got some hard work ahead of him with regards to how we want him to play and the way our nines play.

“It might be another week for him.”

Rovers came through the win at Tetley’s Stadium with no new injuries and Sharp said: “It was a really good team performance.

“Defensively there were great efforts from the entire 17. The attitude to keep them scoreless was what pleased me most.”

Sharp felt the game was tougher than the scoreline suggests, but he said: “We are playing well.

“For three games on the bounce we’ve scored a lot of points and defended really well. We are confident and we are looking forward to the weekend.”
