Mud, cold and heavy rain made for a gruelling contest and Sharp admitted: “It was a war of attrition.”

Said the coach: “It was a matter of just getting the win and the two points, irrespective of how many and how we played. It was totally a matter of getting a result. Conditions were a massive leveller and suited them more than us.

“Credit to Oldham, they played really well and handled the conditions better than us.

“We knew it was going to be tough and it was a real arm wrestle with such a slow ruck.

“The amount of effort from both teams made it not much of a spectacle to keep the fans warm.”

Sharp said Featherstone, who visit Batley Bulldogs on Sunday, came through with no new injuries, despite the conditions.
