Featherstone: Ellis returns to Rovers

Hooker Andy Ellis has returned to Featherstone Rovers and is set to feature in Sunday's Kingstone Press Championship game at home to Dewsbury Rams.

Ellis’ return is a huge boost for Rovers, whose specialist hooker Matty Wildie suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season.

Coach Jon Sharp said: “We were disappointed at the end of last season when Andy Ellis decided he would take up a career opportunity outside of the game for a year which meant that he could not commit to the club.

“Fortunately Andy has made himself available which is great news for us. We’ve been pleased with how we have been playing attack wise, but we have missed a traditional hooker.

“Danny Craven and John Davies have stepped up and applied themselves well, but it’s a specialised role so the return of Andy is a huge boost.”

Sharp added: “His return should make us more fluid in attack and more potent. He finished last season in outstanding form, playing 80 minutes in the Kingstone Press Championship Shield final against London Broncos.

“It shouldn’t take him long to settle in as he knows our systems and how we coach. We do expect a certain bit of rustiness having not played since last October, but we are sure this will not last long.”
