Featherstone 24 Hunslet 10: Hawks give new boss food for thought as Rovers turn on the style

Hawks led 10-6 at half-time but Championship outfit Featherstone made their class tell in the second half, with full-back Danny Craven scoring a try on debut. Rovers took a sixth minute lead when stand-off Kyle Briggs, making his first appearance in his third spell with the club, linked with Ian Hardman to send in Jamie Cording. Briggs added the first of his four goals.

Hunslet kept the ball in great style for Mufaro Mvududu to put in Lee Mapals in reply, and winger James Duckworth’s magnificent 70-yard run led to Hardman being sin-binned for holding down and ex- Rovers hooker George Flanagan went over from close range. Simon Brown goaled.

Rovers regained the lead two minutes into the second-half when Jack Ormondroyd stormed over.

Then Craven, signed on a season-long loan from Widnes, darted over the line from Will Milner’s pass.

Hunslet lost Matt Carbutt with a suspected broken jaw before Rovers sealed victory 15 minutes from time when Channing sent Kyran Johnson racing 70 yards for a superb try.

l Batley Bulldogs ran in six converted tries to record a 36-18 victory over League One side North Wales on Saturday.

Batley had six different try scorers and used a total of 22 players in their first pre-season friendly of 2016.
