Fan plans Holmes tribute

FANS are being urged to pay tribute to Leeds rugby league legend John Holmes.

The former Yorkshire, England and Great Britain star made a club record 625 appearances for Leeds – all but 21 of them in the starting line-up – from 1968 to 1989.

Regarded as one of the most talented players ever to play for Leeds, Holmes began at full-back and had a spell in the centres before settling into the stand-off position, though he also featured at loose-forward late in his career.

Famed for his remarkable passing game and clever tactical kicking, Holmes, pictured right, played in 19 finals for Leeds, winning all but five.

Now supporter Roger Young is planning to launch a website dedicated to Holmes' achievements for Leeds.

Young said: "I am asking for Yorkshire Evening Post readers' assistance in seeking out remembrances of John's long career with Leeds.

"It may be personal appreciations, photos, articles, in fact anything that may give full and due credit to a wonderful talent and tremendous servant.

"I'd give appropriate credit for any items submitted."
