Reigning champions Sheffield Eagles leapfrogged Dewsbury into fifth place in the Kingstone Press Championship with a 28-12 win at the Tetley’s Stadium.

Misi Taulapapa scored a try in each half for the Eagles, whose other touchdowns came from Steve Turner, Menzie Yere and Pat Walker, who also kicked four goals.

Shane Grady and Austin Buchanan scored the tries for Dewsbury, who have now lost their last six matches against the 1998 Challenge Cup winners.

Sheffield, who led 10-4 at half-time, sit just one point above Rams on the league ladder but have a game in hand.

And the South Yorkshire outfit will be looking to make it three wins on the spin when they entertain Keighley Cougars next Sunday at the Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield.

Dewsbury, meanwhile, have lost two Championship matches back-to-back and have a tough task halting the slide with third-top Doncaster the next up for the Rams.

Dewsbury Rams: Pryce, Morton, Beckett, Grady, Buchanan, Hyde, Thackeray, Dowes, Hemingway, Aizue, Hale, Hepworth, Gallagher. Subs: Wright, Nash, Haggerty, Briggs.

Fourth-placed Halifax didn’t have everything their own way in an 18-10 home win over fourth-bottom Workington. Halifax can keep the pressure on the top three when they entertain struggling Rochdale next Sunday.
