DEWSBURY RAMS are in a good position to progress next year, coach Glenn Morrison believes.

Rams’ season is over following a 36-22 defeat at Bradford Bulls two days ago in a Kingstone Press Championship Shield semi-final.

Rams finished eighth in the Championship and were fourth on the Shield table.

Morrison said: “We knew it was going to be a tough season, but we got to the semi-finals, which we needed to do.

“The season was okay, we could have done better, but a lot of things contributed to that. There’s a lot of positives to build on for next season.

“We had new half-backs and they’ve had 12 months in our system which will benefit them and I think we will be okay next year.”

Of his squad for 2017, Morrison said: “There’s a couple leaving and there’ll probably be half a dozen new faces coming in. The majority we wanted to retain are staying. We will probably run with a smaller squad, but we’re looking forward to the start, working with the new squad and putting things in place for next year.”

Rams trailed 20-4 at half-time against Bradford and Morrison said: “The effort and desire was there. In the first half we completed at 50 per cent and didn’t build any pressure. In the second half we built pressure and played down their end and scored some good tries.”
