Dewsbury Rams: Morrison indebted to Tigers after answering Rams' cup-squad SOS

DEWSBURY RAMS coach Glenn Morrison has thanked Castleford Tigers for helping him get a squad together for tonight's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie at home to Newcastle Thunder (8pm).

Rams have a host of injuries and dual-registered and loan players are usually not available for the knockout competition, but Morrison said: “Cas have been good, they have allowed us to play a loan player, Dan Igbinedion, even though it means he will be cup-tied.

“We will be all right. The boys have trained well this week – those who can – and we are looking forward to it.”

Igbinedion, 22, is a forward who joined Castleford from Oxford in the closed season.

“He has been good,” Morrison said. “He had a couple of good runs last weekend. He is just raw, he is learning, but he offers himself up and his offence and defence is strong. I am sure he will pick it up and improve.”

Tonight’s game is vital for Rams, who have lost their opening six Kingstone Press Championship fixtures. Thunder play in League One, but Morrison warned: “They have spent a bit of money and they’ve got some good players. They’ve won two from two so they’ll be confident. It is a tough one, but we need to get off the mark. I don’t think we’ve been far off, but the tension of not getting a win is making things look worse.

“We need to get a win and then hopefully we’ll kick on.”
