It was Rams’ eighth successive loss in all competitions, and Kelly admitted: “The second half was bad.” But he insisted: “In the first half – and I fully expect people in white coats to be knocking on my door [for saying this] – I thought we were the better team.”

And the Dewsbury head coach reflected: “We were 24-0 down at half-time, but after 37 minutes it was 12-0 and those 12 points came against the run of play. We had the better of the play in the first half.

“I can’t argue with the half-time score or the 64-6 at the end, but there were some signs in there we are being competitive.

“But in the second half, after they scored their first try, I could not defend the way we played.”

Seven of Rams’ successive defeats have been in the Betfred Championship.

Kelly said: “We have had a run of tough games and we are disappointed and upset at what has happened.

“But the performances haven’t been without a bit of an indication we are on the right track.”

Kelly said Dewsbury came through capital contest with no new injuries and some of the eight players unavailable at London could return for Sunday’s home game against Rochdale Hornets.
