Paul Sykes’ last-gasp penalty saw the Rams claim a famous 16-14 victory at Odsal Stadium and coach Glenn Morrison knows his side must back that up with another strong display tomorrow.

“It was outstanding,” said Morrison of last week’s victory. “The effort’s been there, especially defensively the last few weeks, but we haven’t had a lot of the ball.

“We really dug deep and deserved the win.

“We spoke about going there and getting the win throughout the week and then kicking on – getting the confidence to keep going and the boys backed up the talk.

Oldham beat us earlier in the year so we know they are a strong side. I think the scoreline flattered Batley a little bit at the weekend, they came up with some good stuff. We need to kick on now and get the win otherwise last week doesn’t mean anything.

“We’ll be going out with the same mind-set as we had last week.”

Featherstone Rovers boss Jon Sharp is preparing his players for the “biggest challenge” outside Super League when they travel to league leaders Leigh Centurions tomorrow.

Rovers won 58-12 at home to Swinton Lions last week and Sharp was pleased with how his players bounced back from their Big Bash thrashing by Halifax.

He said: “We haven’t got rid of the sour taste in our mouths from that performance at Blackpool but we certainly showed lots of intensity and determination and lots of skill as well, which was pleasing.

“Leigh this week is the biggest challenge you can get outside of playing a Super League team.

“They are certainly proving very difficult to beat irrespective of home or away.”

Elsewhere, in League One, Hunslet Hawks will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they host third-placed York City Knights tomorrow.

George Flanagan misses out for the second week running as he completes a two-game suspension but Craig Robinson returns to the squad replacing Matthew Tebb who left the club earlier this week.
