Centurions march on as Hawks wilt in 13-try blitz

HUNSLET suffered their second heavy defeat in four days as they were ruthlessly dismantled by Kingstone Press Championship leaders Leigh.

Beaten 68-6 by Bradford last Sunday, Barry Eaton’s side were no match for the Centurions who needed a win to replace Bradford at the top of the table.

Leigh scored 13 tries in all, five of them from full-back Gregg McNally.

The home side led 46-0 by half-time and although their scoring rate slowed down after the restart, were rarely troubled by the Hawks who were outclassed by their full-time opponents.

McNally scored the first of his five after just six minutes and Leigh added tries from Martyn Ridyard and Micky Higham without Hunslet even touching the ball. Ridyard kicked all three conversions and Centurions lead 18-0 after only 12 minutes.

Matt Sarsfield scored twice before half-time with another from McNally and one from Martin Aspinwall.

Paul Rowley’s side didn’t let up after the restart. McNally scored another three tries while there two from Liam Kay and another for Higham.

Hunslet’s fans, who to their credit never stopped singing all night, finally had something to cheer when Mufaro Mvududu scored eight minutes from time. Simon Brown added the conversion.
