FORMER PLAYERS Danny Orr and Ryan Hudson are helping produce the next generation of Super League stars.

The duo’s Elite Rugby Academy, which provides training for youngsters aged from four to 14, has had a group of players snapped up by top-flight clubs’ scholarship systems. Iwan Orr and Joe Burton have signed on with Castleford Tigers, Oli Burton and Tom Burton are at Leeds Rhinos and Ellis Longstaff has joined Wigan Warriors.

The players, all aged 14, have been part of the Elite School of Excellence, while playing their club rugby at Kippax Welfare.

Orr, who is also assistant-coach at Castleford, said: “Last year saw three of our students sign with pro’ clubs, so the progression of success and a further marked improvement continues with the current crop of five players being picked up and signed. It’s great to see the programme is starting to reap the rewards of the hard work that all the kids put in, along with all my coaches and the dedication of all involved.

“I’m really looking forward to monitoring their progression as they mature and develop further under the youth development programmes at their respected clubs.”

Orr played for Castleford, Wigan and London, while Hudson’s former clubs include Wakefield, Castleford and Huddersfield and he also had a spell on Wildcats’ backroom staff.
