Castleford Tigers have turned down a shock transfer request from highly-rated teenage hooker Daryl Clark.

The 19-year-old – who is currently sidelined with a long-term knee injury – made his Super League debut last year and is one of the brightest prospects in the British game.

Clark signed a new five-year contract last October, but stunned the club by asking for a move through his agent.

Coach Ian Millward confirmed: “Daryl’s agent has put in a formal request that has been rejected unanimously by the board.

“We have refused the request. Daryl has a five-year contract with us.”

Warrington Wolves are understood to be keen on Clark, but Millward added: “We have spoken to parties interested in him and now they understand how committed we are to Daryl Clark.

“We are in the process of building a team for the future and Daryl is an integral part of that.”

The news comes just a week after Rangi Chase, who is also on a long-term deal, hinted that he would be interested in a move to Wigan Warriors.
