Castleford Tigers: Sene-Lefao targets a trophy treble with Tigers

FANS' FAVOURITE Jesse Sene-Lefao has targeted a clean sweep during his next three years at Castleford Tigers.

The Samoan international forward this week signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until the end of 2021.

And asked what he hopes Tigers will achieve during that time, he replied: “All three trophies!”

Signed from Cronulla Sharks in the autumn of 2016, Sene-Lefao was ever-present last year when Castleford topped the Betfred Super League table and were Grand Final runners-up.

“We could not ask for more with what we’ve done already and what we’ve achieved,” he said.

“To see where we could go in the next three years is something I want to be a part of.”

Sene-Lefao reckons Tigers are on track to feature in semi-finals and finals again this year.

“I think we’ve done pretty well,” he said of the season so far.

“We’ve lost three games now, those games have been pretty tough and from those games we’ve learned a lot and we responded straight away.

“Last weekend the Wigan game was pretty tough to take – we know individually we didn’t play well and that’s a good sign, that we know where the problems are.

“I’d be more worried if we didn’t know where they are. I am always confident, you don’t play this game if you’re not confident.

“I always believe; we have a few goals and standards we like to meet each and every week and if we get those standards I feel it will give us an opportunity to get to the big games.”

Sene-Lefao has not played for more than a month, due to a knee injury.

Coach Daryl Powell will name his initial 19-man squad for Friday’s derby at home to Wakefield Trinity today and the 28-year-old pack man is hopeful of being included.

“It is coming along well,” he said of his injury. “Matty [Crowther, Tigers’ physio’] is saying I am flying.

“I think that’s a good thing. I have got a few more boxes to tick and a few more sessions to get through, then we can make the final announcement if I am going to play or not.

“I am still not sure yet, but definitely next week if not this one.”
