Castleford Tigers: Ellis back and looking forward to success

THERE'S A saying '˜you should never go back', but Castleford Tigers pivot Jamie Ellis is an exception to that rule.

Ellis returned to Tigers for a second spell after helping Hull Kingston Rovers win promotion to Betfred Super League last year.

It has proved a smart move for both club and player with Ellis taking a key role in the side, particularly following a long-term injury to half-back Luke Gale.

Ellis, who landed the drop goal which beat Wigan Warriors a week ago and lifted Tigers to third in the table, said: “I loved it here before I left, to be honest.

“I went to Huddersfield and Hull KR, but I’m glad to be back.

“It’s the same people, same faces so I’ve slotted in really good with the lads and I am really enjoying it.

“I got a chance to come back here and hopefully this year we can get to another Grand Final and win something.”

Tigers will aim to keep up the pressure on the top two when they face Catalans Dragons in Perpignan tomorrow.

“It’s always a tough place to go, but all the lads are on a high after beating Wigan,” Ellis said.

“They’ll be the same as us as they are in a good run at moment so it will be a very tough game.

“It’s always physical over there and the weather takes it out of you so we have to be smart with how we play.”

Tigers flew to France yesterday, rather than travelling there and back on the day of the game.

Ellis said: “It’s a nice little trip away and a nice break from the kids. I’ll get some sleep – I don’t get much sleep with my two at the moment!

“It is nice, one of my good pals, Jodie Broughton, lives over there so it’ll be nice to go see him and his family.

“It is a good venue to play at, a good, hostile crowd.”
