Jewitt suffered a knee injury in last Friday’s win over Wigan Warriors and coach Daryl Powell said: “We’re not sure of the severity yet, but he couldn’t go back on.

“We will check on him this week, but everybody else seemed to come through okay.”

Powell said it is unlikely Tigers will get anybody back from injury this week.

“Jake Webster [ankle] is a possibility, but I don’t think so,” Powell said.

Saturday’s game could see Tigers complete successive wins over the top-three following the victories against Hull and Wigan.

And Powell reckons defensive improvements have been at the heart of his team’s three-game winning run, which began with a derby success away to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

“Defending better always gives you a chance,” he said.

“We have been there or thereabouts with the top teams over the last two games.

“We have conceded 38 points and the defensive effort has been really pleasing .

“At the end of the regular season we had the second-most points scored and the second-most points conceded.

“We have some exciting games, but we’d like to make them a little less close if possible!”

Meanwhile, the RFL will take no further action against Tigers forward Oliver Holmes or opponent Dom Crosby after they were sin-binned for striking during last Friday’s game.

The match review panel decided the yellow cards were sufficient punishment for the pair.
