Cardiss is back at Batley

Batley Bulldogs have re-signed utility-back Daryl Cardiss, who had a loan spell at Mount Pleasant in 2007.

The 30-year-old Leeds-born player has joined Batley from Oldham and has previously played for Wigan, Halifax, Warrington and Widnes.

Cardiss is poised to make his debut in Sunday's opening Northern Rail Cup tie at home to Doncaster.

Bulldogs will be without three-quarter Dale Cardoza, who has not yet fully recovered after undergoing a knee reconstruction last year.

"He saw the specialist this week," said coach Gary Thornton.

"We were hoping he'd be able to play on Sunday, but he needs at least another couple of weeks."

Nat Brown is on stand-by as cover for Ben Feehan, who has a bruised foot. Paul Mennell remains sidelined due to a shoulder problem.
