Whitehaven 28 Batley Bulldogs: Bulldogs fall short after taking lead

Have your say

BATLEY squandered a half-time advantage and eventually lost out to never-say-die hosts Whitehaven.

Whitehaven opened the scoring with a Craig Calvert try, converted by Cain Southernwood, but Miles Greenwood crossed twice in reply, and Scott Leatherbarrow added points from a couple of goals and a drop-goal for a 13-6 half-time lead.

But that was the last scoring Batley were to do as Whitehaven simply took charge in the second half.

Within five minutes of the second-half re-start Whitehaven were only a point adrift. Thomas Carr scored the try and Jordan Burns crossed for the final try on 52 minutes before Southernwood put the boot in to keep the score ticking over.
