Batley Bulldogs: Diskin philosophical over called-off match

BOSS MATT Diskin was 'frustrated' by the delay to Batley Bulldogs' season, but insists it will not cause them a major problem.

Batley were due to kick off away to Rochdale Hornets last Sunday, but the game was postponed 48 hours in advance due to a “weather-damaged” pitch.

That left Batley kicking their heels when most of their rivals were getting a first competitive game under their belts, but Diskin said: “It is not a problem, though it is a hindrance having to rearrange it.

“It will probably put us at a disadvantage later in the year, but it is frustrating more than anything else.

“We have been training hard and gearing up for the start and for it to be taken away late on is frustrating.

“I feel for the boys, because they have worked hard, but we have got an opportunity against Leigh this week and we will go then.”

Batley trained as normal on Friday but Diskin gave his players the weekend off.

“It was a last chance for them to spend a Saturday and Sunday with their families before it all starts,” Diskin said.

“It is a long year and it starts this weekend.”

Joe Chandler, who was ruled out of last weekend’s game due to concussion, will be available to face Leigh.

Diskin said long-term casualty Brad Day could also be in contention.
