MILFORD MARLINS will face Normanton Knights in this weekend’s National Conference Division One promotion final at Widnes.
Milford are one win away from a place in the top flight after a 25-18 victory over York Acorn in their play-offs semi-final.
Marlins trailed 18-8 shortly after half-time, but the introduction of substitute James Barker – backed by a strong effort from hooker Josh Parle – turned the game on its head.
Steve Bacon got Milford back into contention with an unconverted try and they levelled when Zak Snellgrove converted Tom Wilson’s touchdown on 70 minutes. Snellgrove added the extras again after Macauley Barron crossed two minutes later and Parle’s drop goal on 75 minutes completed the scoring.
Acorn’s Tom Hill was sent off late on, after being sin-binned – along with with Milford’s Robin Wilks – in the first half. Acorn also had Matt Woods yellow-carded.
Josh Nathaniel and Elliot Watmough scored Milford’s first-half tries.
The promotion final will be held at Select Security Stadium on Saturday (noon) as a curtain-raiser to the Conference Grand Final between Siddal and Thatto Heath Crusaders (2.15pm).
Dewsbury Moor beat Woolston Rovers 16-10 in the Division Three promotion final.
George Croisdale bagged a brace for Moor and Jordan Foster also crossed. Aiden Ineson kicked two conversions.
