Amateur RL: Lions tear away Marlins' promotion dream in play-off semi-final

MILFORD MARLINS' hopes of promotion to the National Conference Premier Division have been dashed.

Marlins were beaten 26-18 at Featherstone Lions in the Division One promotion play-off semi-final.

Lions – who finished fourth, one place ahead of Milford – will play Skirlaugh at Widnes’ Select Security Stadium on Saturday for a place in the top flight next year.

Milford led 14-12 at half-time, through tries by Matt Brocksom and Mark Judge and three goals from Ryan Oxtoby, but managed only a Joe Ramsden touchdown in the second half.

Scott Glassell bagged a brace for Lions in the second half, after Sam Wilson and Gaz Gale crossed in the opening 40 minutes.

Glassell also kicked three goals and Liam Kay landed two.

Skirlaugh beat visitors Normanton Knights 31-24 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, Thornhill Trojans won 32-30 at Upton in the Pennine League’s 11-a-side division, after leading 32-6 early in the second half.

Jordan Truelove scored two tries for Trojans, James Craven, Josh Lister, Luke Carter and Chris Mitchell got the others and Mark Hodgson landed four goals.
