THE GOALkicking of stand-off Nathan Conroy proved the difference as Premier Division East Leeds pipped Division Three side Hunslet Club Parkside 20-16 in the National Conference Trophy.
The sides shared six tries, but Conroy’s four goals ensured the visitors’ place in the third round.
Conroy was also among the try scorers for Easts, along with Luke Pettman and Dale Pattison.
Luke O’Malley, Danny Harrison and Dale Harris crossed for Parkside, with Harris and Jamie Fields each adding one goal.
Hunslet’s other team, Warriors, also bowed out, beaten 30-18 at Thornhill Trojans.
The Division One visitors made a strong start,racing into a 14-point lead in the first half hour through tries from Luke Day and Richard Wheelhouse with full back Gary McClelland adding both conversions and a penalty.
But Sam Ratcliffe and Jake Wilson crossed for Division Three Thornhill and Joel Gibson converted both before levelling the scores with a penalty.
Lee West’s try edged Warriors back in front after half-time.
But Mindaugas Bendikas, Danny Ratcliffe and Gibson ran in tries for Thornhill Trojans and Gibson booted two more goals to secure a place in the next round.
Meanwhile, Methley Royals hammered Bentley Good Companions ‘A’ 74-16 in the Yorkshire Men’s League’s Entry Division.
Ryan Meah grabbed a hat-trick, Reece Henderson crossed twice and other try scorers were Lee Mapals, Az Knowles, Jamie Owens, Jarred Willshaw, Kyle Campy, Ben Kendrew, Nathan Campsill, Ciaran Travis, James Lambert and Adam Ellis.
Mapals kicked four goals and Kendrew landed three.
