Amateur RL: Captain Fields helps BARLA Lions clinch success in tour opener

Hunslet Club Parkside's Jamie Fields scored six points as Great Britain's amateur side '“ BARLA Lions '“ hit back to open their South Pacific tour with a 22-20 win over West Fiji.

Fields, the tour captain, came off the bench to kick three goals for the Lions who trailed 16-10 at half-time.

His club-mate, Andy Hullock, skippered the side on the day and Luke Tagg, of Castleford Lock Lane, was among Lions’ try scorers.

Mark Tyson (Askam) bagged a brace for Lions and York Acorn’s Reece Rushworth scored the winning try.

The side also included Featherstone Lions’ Dean Gambles and Ian Jackson, Craig Savage of Lock Lane and Ryan Chalkley (Shaw Cross Sharks).

Try scorers for West Fiji were Veresa Tuqovu (2), Luke Narara and Esira Dokini. Jona Varomusu and Josateki Savou kicked a goal each.
