Local cricket - Pudseny St Lawrence march on after ending New Farnley’s winning run

Pudsey St Lawrence are the only side to boast a 100 per cent record in the Bradford League after they ended New Farnley’s winning run in the Gordon Rigg Premier League Cup East Section.

Half-centuries from Mark Robertshaw and James Smith saw Saints set a 241-6 target and, even though Steve Bullen (81) and Alex Lilley (69no) shared a century seventh-wicket stand, the visitors came up 14 runs short.

Michael Nicholson (101) and Azeem Rafiq (67) put on 155 in Cleckheaton’s 261-8 and with Ethan Lee taking 4-25, the home side comfortably overcame Methley.

Hanging Heaton brought Batley’s winning start to an abrupt halt in the West Section after Callum Geldart (108) helped them set a 202 target. Josh Wheatley (4-25) and James Byrne (3-7) then took over and skittled Batley for 77.

Muhammad Bilal and Jack Hughes each picked up four cheap wickets before Bilal hit an undefeated 35 to clinch victory for Townville at Wrenthorpe, while Ed Brown’s 70 was the highlight of Bradford & Bingley’s 112-run win over Morley.

Morley are now the only team on the Premier League Cup who have not registered a win as the competition reaches the halfway point.

Meanwhile, Stephen Brown took 5-19 as Follifoot were dismissed for 97 and despite Istikhar Hussain’s 5-40, Otley won by four wickets and stay top of the Aire-Wharfe League Division One.

Andrew Doidge scored an unbeaten 129 as Rawdon overcame Collingham to stay on the leaders’ heels while Saltaire kept in the leading pack, Awaise Hussain (74), Jibrael Malik 966), Aftab Khan (61) and Mussawar Shah (58) seeing them to an unassailable 361-9 against Olicanian.

Archie Ralphs took 6-39 to dismiss Bilton for 154, which North Leeds passed with two wickets in hand, Callum Carson making 59.
