The 30-year-old faces off against Mexican Mauricio Lara on Saturday night, 15 months since he last stepped through the ropes.

The IBF had ordered a mandatory title defence against Kid Galahad but the Leeds Warrior wants to build on his legacy and not be held back by the politics of the sport.

“I don’t regret the decision to vacate. I have to do it to move forward and get the big fights,” said Warrington.

“I am not going to be defined by that one belt. For me, I am at a stage where I can go on and win more belts.

"It is all added to your resume and your CV.”

Warrington faces Lara at Wembley Arena on Saturday night with coverage starting from 7pm on Sky Sports.
