Adel notched a comfortable 6-1 win, allowing the Leeds-based side to begin the season as they ended the last – winning games and sitting at the top of the table.

Goals from Sam Harris, Gareth Maver, Tom Hawthorne, Alex Belshire, James Stroomer, and one for lasts year’s coach, now returning to player status, Simon Ball, who showed there is likely to be a strong fight for top scorer this year.

Leeds Adel Ladies took the long road to Durham to try and improve on their draw from two weeks ago.

Unfortunately, a goal for the home side in the last minutes resigned them to a narrow loss.

It was a bitter pill for the team, who had worked hard and showed a lot of positive play throughout the match.

A win and a draw in their first two league games leave the Ladies sitting mid-table, but it’s going to be a long season and they are yet to get into their stride.

With the ongoing issue of COVID-19, clubs within Yorkshire are having to make some changes to game times, and even days of play.

This is especially prevalent with clubs that share pitches, as is the case with University of Leeds and Leeds. This means that many of their games are being rescheduled to a Sunday, as Saturday games are being spaced out to enable cleaning of equipment and playing space between matches.

This was the case for the meeting between University of Leeds Ladies threes and Leeds Ladies fives, as their league game was played a day later than would normally be the case.

Weetwood playing pitches are the home base for both these clubs, so both sides are used to the playing surface and, in a closely fought match, the familiarity showed.

A goal from Sabine Rodwell gave Leeds the lead until an equaliser in the second half brought the sides level.

Charlotte Campbell got the last touch on a Ganxue Braisby shot to sneak the ball past the University keeper in the closing stages to earn a narrow win for the ‘away’ team.
