Rob Burrow (2), pictured above, and Cummins added Leeds’ goals in front of a crowd of 11,585.

The pre-season encounter featured tries for Leeds by Garry Schofield (2), Carl Gibson and Gary Spencer.

Leeds, fielding a Welsh trialist at stand-off, began their season with a 22-5 win at Bramley, a week after beating the same opposition 42-4 in the Lazenby Cup.

Mervyn Hicks, Phil Cookson, Ray Batten, John Langley, Alan Smith and John Atkinson were Leeds’ try scorers and John Holmes kicked two goals.

After beginning their league campaign with a defeat at Wigan, Leeds bounced back to defeat St Helens 20-13 at Headingley.

Les Dyl scored a brace of tries and John Atkinson, Phil Cookson, Ron Cowen and John Burke were the Loiners’ other try scorers.

John Holmes kicked a goal.
