Having suffered a dip in form in the league, Bryan Redpath’s men have used the break for the Cup to set themselves up perfectly for a White Rose derby with Rotherham Titans next Sunday.

It also puts them at the top of their pool going into the final two rounds.

This victory, building on a comfortable win at Scarborough last week, was all about forward power as three of Carnegie’s four tries came from their catch and drive, with a fourth coming from a penalty try after Scottish were adjudged to have pulled up Yorkshire’s rolling maul illegally.

Despite an early Kevin Sinfield penalty, Carnegie found themselves 10-3 down after Rory Hughes burst through a gap in midfield. Peter Lydon converted having earlier kicked a penalty.

Redpath’s men then made their hosts pay for some sloppy execution when Lee Imiolek crashed through a tackle and over the whitewash, Sinfield converting.

A succession of impeded mauls resulted in Carnegie being awarded a penalty try with James Gibbons sin-binned for his troubles.

But despite being a man down, Scottish responded at the start of the second half when Dan Newton crossed.

Another catch and drive saw Andy Saull emerge with the try as Sinfield converted to give Carnegie a 24-17 lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Scottish set up a grandstand finish when captain Mark Bright was driven over from close range, Lydon converting to level matters.

With time running out Yorkshire gained a penalty well within Sinfield’s range but they opted to kick for the corner.

The former Leeds Rhino set up another catch and drive from which Charlie Beech crashed over. Sinfield struck the post with his conversion attempt.

Prop Imiolek said: “It has been good to get back to back wins over London Scottish in the Cup.

“We have got a massive game against Rotherham Titans next week and we know just how tough that is going to be.”
