Leeds United: Martin returns from Barrow

Leeds United goalkeeper Alan Martin is returning to Elland Road from Barrow, with the non-league club unable to afford an extension of his loan.

The Scotland Under-21 international joined the Blue Square Premier side at the start of the season but will look for a new opportunity during the transfer window.

His final appearance for Barrow came in a 3-1 defeat at Darlington on Monday, and Barrow's joint-manager, Dave Bayliss, said: "We can't afford to keep Alan, simple as that."

Martin, 22, is unlikely to feature in United's first-team plans in the coming months with Kasper Schmeichel installed as first-choice under boss Simon Grayson and Shane Higgs providing cover.

The former Motherwell keeper has been on the books at Elland Road since 2007 but has not made a senior appearance for the club.
