Turf Talk: Hook on to Scallop for the catch of the day

SCALLOP looks the catch of the day at Beverley tomorrow for Sir Michael Stoute and Graham Lee (4.15pm).

The Beverley Bullet is tomorrow’s highlight at the ‘east coast’ course and David Barron’s Maunby raider Pearl Secret comes out best on the figures (2.25pm).

A highly regarded sprinter, he’s a strong fancy under Jamie Spencer but Scallop rates the Beverley nap with Stoute’s improving filly chasing a hat-trick.

Scallop receives a handy 5lbs in weight from Yenhaab who disappointed last time and a bigger danger might be bottom weight Truancy who is chasing a four-timer for Middleham handler Karl Burke.

Another Middleham trainer, Mark Johnston, should land Beverley’s opener with Adele (1.55pm).

Mark Johnston’s filly was only just denied on her debut at Thirsk and the strong Graham Lee can drive her to go one better here.

Lee also partners Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Master Of Suspense who looks more reliable than Cagoule in the 5.20pm while Sir Mark Prescott’s unexposed Real Jazz looks the one to be with in the finale (5.50pm).

And there’s also a decent card at Sandown tomorrow where John Gosden’s promising Water Hole might be good value in the Atalanta Stakes (3.15pm).

Water Hole is up in class and has a fair bit to find on the figures but Gosden will likely know his improving horse is up to the task.

Best of luck with your bets.
