royal Ascot heroine Coronet could take on older fillies and mares in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks in what would be her third attempt at winning a Group One prize.

Fifth in the Investec Oaks and third in the Prix Saint-Alary in her first two tries at the top level, the John Gosden-trained filly stayed on strongly to claim Group Two honours in the Ribblesdale Stakes last week.

Richard Evans, farm manager for owners Denford Stud, said: “We were very pleased with her Ribblesdale run. She bounced back nicely from the Oaks having not enjoyed coming down hill.

“To be fair, that was her only below-par performance having won twice last year, followed by a third in the Group One Prix Saint-Alary this year, having being forced to come late and wide with a terrific finishing burst.

“Where she goes from here will be discussed between the owner and trainer, of course.

“However, she does have an entry in the Yorkshire Oaks, where the track and distance would suit, and she looks like a filly that could then step up in distance towards the end of the season She’s a very genuine filly.”

Evans is already looking to future generations from Coronet’s dam, Approach.

“Her dam Approach has a New Approach two-year-old colt in pre-training and he should make up into a very nice three-year-old,” he said.

“She also has a yearling filly by Australia, a Kingman colt foal, and is now in-foal to Frankel.”

Willie Mullins is leaning away from the idea of running Ivan Grozny in the Stobart Rail Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday.

Mullins said: “He’d have nearly top weight which wouldn’t make it easy. Also, I just haven’t been 100 per cent happy with him lately so he’s probably not going to run, I’d say.”

Ivan Grozny was a low as 12-1.
