Horse racing: Middleham Day will be best yet

Next year's Middleham Stables Open Day is being billed as the biggest and best yet, once again taking place on Good Friday, April 22.

Billed as the most impressive Open Day in the event's 22-year history, the afternoon events will include a Best Dressed Couple competition, sponsored by Royals of Leyburn, a question and answer session hosted by top northern trainer Mark Johnston, a marquee and bar, guest appearances by leading northern jockeys and a mini-marathon.

The Middleham yards will be open to the public from 9.30am until 1pm with free parking available in Middleham or nearby Leyburn.

There are also bus links between car parks and the outlying stables.

The trainers opening their yards are James Bethell, Karl Burke, Andy Crook, Chris Fairhurst, Micky Hammond, Ben Haslam, Mark Johnston, George Moore, Jedd O'Keeffe, Kate Walton, Simon West and John Weymes.

Admission is 7 in advance for adults or 8 at the gate with children under 12 are admitted free.

Last year more than 6,000 people attended, raising in excess of 14,000 for local charities.

Judith Brickwood, one of the organisers of the Open Day, said: "We want to give everyone who comes a day to remember."
