Yorkshire golf: Drax GC’s John Leonard raises funds for St James’s Hospital

Drax GC Seniors' captain John Leonard passes over the proceeds of his Charity Day to staff at St James's Hospital, Leeds.

He chose Ward 25 at the hospital as benificiaries of his annual Charity Day, which raised £520.

Last year Leonard had some complications after a standard eye operation and says the surgeons and nurses “were absolutely brilliant” in helping him return to playing golf.

The Charity Day consisted of a Texas Scramble followed by a buffet lunch plus a raffle.

Tee of times for four were kindly donated as raffle prizes by Burstwick GC, near Hull, and Kingswood, in Doncaster, and an auction for a fourball at Leeds Golf Centre raised £70.

Leonard presented the cheque to the grateful staff at Ward 25 where Senior Nurse Pat Wallis said the money would be used towards the introduction of a sight testing kit for patients suffering from dementia who no longer recognise the standard ‘shrinking letter’ eye test.

Mr Woon, the Consultant surgeon on Ward 25, commented how gratifying it was to see former patients show appreciation for their treatment in this way.
