Yorkshire golf: County’s new Under-16 champion Daniel Bradbury in line for bonus prize after countback error

The Wakefield player was part of Leeds’s team which won the six-man junior championship at Pike Hills last week and was credited with the second-best afternoon round of 70 behind Sheffield’s Charlie Daughtrey as Leeds retained their title.

However, it has been discovered that an error was made in totting up their scores during the countback procedure, and Bradbury’s 70 has been declared the lowest second-round total.

Bradbury won his county Under-16s with scores of 71 and 72 for a one-shot victory at Doncaster where just three shots covered the top six players in a strong field.

He went into the second round trailing pacesetter James Swash (Middlesbrough) by one shot and consistent play throughout the afternoon earned him the title.

Following a string of good performances he has reduced his handicap from three to scratch in the space of just four months.

The progress has not gone unnoticed, winning him appearances for Yorkshire at both Under-16 and Under-18 levels; he has also appeared for Leeds and District’s jJunior and men’s teams throughout the season.
