Bingley bagman Billy Foster is to make his 12th appearance at a Ryder Cup following the naming of Lee Westwood as a wild card for Team Europe yesterday.

Foster, who made his debut in the biennial competition in 1987 when he caddied for Gordon Brand Junior, last carried the bag for Westwood at Celtic Manor four years ago.

The West Yorkshire-based caddie, who plays out of Bingley St Ives, missed the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ two years ago as he nursed a broken leg back to full health.

He spent more than 12 months on the sidelines from the spring of 2012, to the following May. He reunited with Westwood last November and regularly crosses the Atlantic to work on the PGA Tour.

Westwood’s wild card selection for the match at Gleneagles on September 26-28 means he will be making his ninth successive appearance. Foster has also caddied at Ryder Cups for Seve Ballesteros and Darren Clarke.

Ian Poulter and Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher were captain Paul McGinley’s other picks.
