Force captain Anebo aiming to get shaky season back on track

Last week’s loss to Bristol Flyers means Leeds sit just outside the play-offs, but face two games in 24 hours which can kick-start their season.

Tonight they host Glasgow – who have won all four meetings between the sides since Leeds joined the BBL last season – at Carnegie Sports Centre before travelling to Plymouth Raiders tomorrow (Saturday).

“It’s been an extremely tough month for us,” said Anebo.

“I would say the way we start games both defensively and offensively has been a major issue this month.

“All we have been doing lately is chasing games.

“It is extremely difficult to win games like that. Glasgow are a well-drilled and coached team, a team full of experienced and high-calibre players who play for one another.

“However, I believe that as long as we come out with focus and execute our game plan and play our game we can get a win.”

Elsewhere, in-form Sheffield Sharks – boasting a 10-game winning run – are on the road tonight at London Lions.

Sharks forward John Barber believes their hard work off the court is paying off.

“As a group we’ve decided to put in a lot of extra work,” he said. “Before practice we’re warming up, lifting, having really good practices.”

He added: “Then after we’re cooling down together, working on our core, we’re taking care of our bodies.

“We gain confidence from that and it has built chemistry, doing things outside of practice, and that has really helped us on the court.

“It’s something we haven’t been doing all year. We started it before our first win [of this run] against London.

“We have to key into the Sharks. That’s what has been getting us our success. We watch our film and scout well, but at the end of the day it comes down to us, working on what we have to work on to beat these teams.

“Early on in the season we were so worried about our opponents we forgot about our own system.”
