Your Leeds United views: Match days are like watching paint dry

Last night’s match (Leeds United v QPR) was like watching paint dry.

Two teams competing for nothing, and it showed in the performance of Liam Bridcutt, who seems to be avoiding tackles to evade injury as I suspect he’s looking for a move from Sunderland.

Giuseppe Bellusci is a liability, not just for the last two games but for most of the season. His mentality is not right. Yes, he’s had some good games for us, but if you go to the matches and watch him play, he’s regularly getting involved in off-the-ball incidents, has been lucky to stay on the pitch or not to give away more free kicks and penalties.

As for him apologising in the dressing room to the other players, it should be one of the senior players ‘grabbing him by the throat’ and telling him how many points he’s cost us in the last two games.

We have no leader. Could you see Bremner, Strachan, Radebe, Matteo – among many others – simply accepting an apology!

Uwe Rosler saw him as a trouble causer and Neil Redfearn had the ‘sick note six’ problem with him, yet the player is still here.

Then we have Steve Evans, the coach, who says we keep it in-house and back the players – unless you’re called Jordan Botaka! Give the lad a proper chance; what’s to lose?

He can’t be any worse than what was on show last night. He now doesn’t make the bench. Let the fans see what he’s like.

Evans’ substitutions (against QPR) once again baffled me. Luke Murphy, for once, was bossing the midfield and was moving the ball about – probably because QPR were as poor as us – yet Evans took him off for Toumani Diagouraga.

And why bring on Lewie Coyle for a winger? It meant we had two right-backs on the pitch not knowing if he or Gaetano Berardi were meant to go forward. QPR got the pass between Coyle and Berardi, taking them both out in one pass, leaving Bellusci to drag him down for an easy penalty decision.

The highlight of the match was Bailey Peacock-Farrell being brave enough to come away from his goal line to actually shout at defenders, and wanting to move the ball out of defence faster. These are things that Marco Silvestri could learn off the youngster.

This then leads on to next season: a promotion-year promise (once again) no doubt, but we don’t have the players. Chris Wood, for instance, our £3m buy can’t even time his jumps correctly! Evans has talked about new players and investment, but even if this does happen (don’t hold your breath) we need so many players that they are hardly likely to gel and know how each other play during pre-season to mount a challenge. Even for a top-six finish players need to have been brought in last Christmas to give us a head start.

I fear next season we will be watching a new coat of paint to dry!
