IT WAS A good all-round display at Anfield and had Kemar Roofe scored with that brilliant effort, the game would have changed to one of Liverpool battling to stay in the competition.

You need to take your chances even just one of them, otherwise you leave with zero goals and heartache over what could have been.

I console myself with the memory of an entertaining and gutsy display from the whole team, leaving me with a feeling that a full squad firing on all cylinders will bring success to Elland Road sooner rather than later.

A big positive overall for an excellent team effort with the only question mark being in the final third and being more clinical with attempts on goal.

Unlucky Whites deserved more

Proud of the lads. Plenty of effort. Roofe played extremely well. He was really unlucky not to score that goal as the goalkeeper was nowhere near.

As I said previously when playing a team like Liverpool if you sit deep against them they run out of ideas and really were lucky with their goals. We more than matched them and were unlucky, still the focus has to be the league.

Leeds making real progress

This performance has really shown how far the team has progressed and developed as a unit, they play for the fans, for each other and for the badge.

If this was last season or the season before that, Liverpool would have walked all over us, but they didn’t.

We gave them a good run for their money and really tested them.

Team ethic is really building

Game over and move on.. to maybe bigger things.

There was plenty said about Liverpool’s side not being full strength but our club hardly fielded our first XI. It was a competitive match and for about 10 minutes in the second half we were on top.

Our shortcomings are still there in centre-midfield and in the final third but there is an attitude and feeling that I haven’t felt for years, we seem to be playing for each other and the fans.

If we show the same effort, confidence, determination, mentality, spirit and skill (which will show up more against lesser opposition) in every game then we will win more Championship games than we don’t. I thought everyone did well at Liverpool with just occasional individual errors but no player made more than one or two and most were relatively minor or led to nothing.

Luke Ayling has been getting some blame for Liverpool’s first goal but that is the first time he has played central defence for us. He did well enough in that position that if needed to play there for a few games I think he could do it well.

I think you can say we do have four centre-backs, including him, although right- back is his better position at the moment. The good thing is if we have to play Gaetano Berardi at right-back and Ayling at centre-back it isn’t a disaster. He’s not as good as Pontus Jansson but pretty solid, probably not far behind Liam Cooper in that position?

Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips deserve a mention as well when you consider they were up against Lucas and other experienced midfielders. Injuries though (as expected) will be a problem with a relatively thin squad. There’s no reason to be disappointed about Tuesday night other than the result!
