Yorkshire Amateur: Struggling Old Batelians struck by full force of Huddersfield YMCA's title push

Huddersfield YMCA kept their Division Two title hopes alive after they crushed basement boys Old Batelians Reserves 10-2, writes Nick Cary.

The result leaves them second and two points behind Gildersome Spurs going into the final round of fixtures, while a point is enough to seal promotion.

In Division Three, champions Horsforth St Margaret’s beat third-placed visitors Leeds City 1-0 thanks to a Jake Williams winner.

Elsewhere, a brace from Tich Chibi earned Thornesians a vital point as they drew 2-2 with Fairbank United. The result leaves Thornesians two points off third from bottom with one game of the season remaining.

Kippax Athletic were promoted despite being beaten 5-0 by Ealandians Reserves with the latter still eyeing a fourth-placed finish.

Norristhorpe were 9-1 winners away at Leeds Modernians, ending their campaign on a high thanks to goals from Jak Olroyd, who hit five, plus Lewis Collinson (2), Dale Holt and Gaz Lee. Already relegated Middleton Park picked up their seventh point of the season as the league’s leakiest defence held firm to draw 0-0 with Woodhouse Moor.

In Division Four, Shire Academics gave their goal difference a huge boost as they chase down the title.

They won 11-1 at home to Horsforth St Margaret Reserves thanks to goals from Jack Self (3), Tyler Baker (3), Kevin Dawes, Joe Thornton, Joe Hopkins, Chris Godfrey and Robby Lauder. Academics have played all their games while second placed Amaranth Reserves sit three points behind, ending their season away to Wigton Moor Reserves needing to win and improve their goal difference by seven.

Morley Town 3rds lost 3-2 to Rothwell 3rds but it didn’t spoil the party for Morley who will be promoted as champions.
