Yorkshire Amateur League: Title complications set in after Medics' setback

LEEDS MEDICS & Dentists suffered a defeat that could be hard to swallow as Premier Division champions Ealandians edged a 1-0 victory in the clash of two title-chasers.

Substitute James Flower’s scored the winning goal 10 minutes from time as Ealandians were victorious, moving up to fifth. Medics could have gone to the top of the table on goal difference with a win but now find themselves three points behind leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors, having played two games more than their title rivals.

Alwoodley took a huge step away from the relegation places as they recorded their first league away win, edging Stanningley 4-3. Jimmy Halliday, Tom Stewart and James Allen all netted for Stanningley who led 3-1 with 15 minutes to go but Geoff Clarkson’s hat-trick, accompanied by an unstoppable drive, from Graham Shaw proved decisive,

Also in the Premier, Grangefield’s winless run came to an end as they beat Trinity 2-0. Goals from Matthew Tomlinson and Daniel Cuff gave Grangefield their first win away at Trinity in seven seasons.

In Division One, Leeds Independent remain rooted to the bottom of the table as they were beaten 5-1 by Collingham Juniors with Richard Metcalfe scoring four for the home side.

Six goals were evenly split as Shire Academics and Morley Town drew 3-3. Cameron Carruthers, Christy Devlin and Mark Freeman scored for Academics while Jason Helm, Kevin Mackay and Jovan Kioseff were on target for Morley.

Leeds Medics 4ths lost their third successive game in Division Two as Old Collegians proved too strong, winning 2-1. Ryan Fuller, scorer in his last five matches, notched Collegians’ winner while taking his goal tally to 24 for the season.

Churwell Lions kept their promotion hopes alive with a 3-1 victory away at Morley Town Reserves while Sandal Wanderers also won away from home, 4-1 winners against Woodkirk Valley.

Kippax Athletic and Leeds City drew 2-2 in a top of the table clash in Division Three and third-placed Ealandians Reserves kept the pressure on with a 4-0 win over relegation threatened Churwell Lions Reserves.

In Division Four, Alwoodley 3rds were beaten 3-2 by Ealandians 3rds while Colton Athletic Reserves beat North Leeds by the same scoreline.

In Division Five, Shire Academics 3rds defeated basement club Thornesians 3rds 4-2 while Woodkirk Valley Reserves were victorious 4-3 away at Trinity Reserves.

In Division Six, Shire Academics 4ths saw off hosts Huddersfield Amateur Reserves 5-2.
