Yorkshire Amateur League: Farsley go third to put pressure on leaders

FArnley Sports moved up to third in the Premier Division with a 3-2 victory against in-form opposition Stanningley OB.

Shane Gaunt scored the home side’s first before adding another in the 66th minute.

Carl Manning, man of the match, secured a late win with an 87th minute header to turn a point into three.

The result leaves Farnley only five points behind leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors with a game in hand.

Celtic sustained the gap between themselves and the chasing pack by beating Alwoodley FC 2-1 at home.

Craig Farrand put Farsley into a first-half lead with his head, but they were pegged back by Geoff Clarkson’s bundled finish after the break. Ryan Collett then bagged to secure a sixth successive win in the league.

Leeds Medics and Dentists, second in the division, could only manage a 1-1 draw against Grangefield OB away from home, with Niall Robinson scoring the visitor’s only goal.

Ealandians put a three-point gap between themselves and Grangefield with a 4-2 victory against Rodillian on the road. An all-action contest saw James Greenwood, Mark Heppenstall, James Parkinson and James Flower score for Ealandians.

Charles Gescei-Holt and Elliot Walker scored for Rodillian, but their task was made difficult by the dismissal of Dominic Doggett.

Basement side Wigton Moor fell to a 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Trinity & All Saints OB.

Trinity & All Saints had goalscoring duo Ian Duggleby and Chris Bowden to thank for their victory.

Both players scoring a goal apiece in either half to secure a comfortable victory.

The pick of the action in the Championship saw Beeston St Anthony’s thump Old Batelians 7-1.

Matthew Boyes, Josh Fieldhouse, Tony Garth, Danny Moran, Lee Nutton and Ryan Thorpe were on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Jamie Smith scored Batelian’s consolation.

Morley Town AFC and Stanningley OB reserves split the points after a 4-4 thriller, with Craig Harris scoring a hat-trick.

Leeds Medics and Dentists Reserves beat Collingham Juniors OB 5-2 to move up to second in the league, while Shire Academics beat Leeds Independent 3-0.

The biggest shock in Division One saw leaders Grangefield OB Reserves lose 5-1 to fourth-placed Dewsbury Rangers FC, leaving the hosts only four points away from top spot. In Division Two, Gildersome Spurs OB overwhelmed Old Batelians Reserves to beat them 11-0 and climb to the top of the table ahead of Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves, who did not play.
