Yorkshire Amateur League: Farsley go nap to stay on course for the title

The visitors avenged the 4-3 defeat from earlier in the season as braces from both Danny Lyons and Joe Firth and a single goal from Chad Morris helped them record a comfortable win.

Leeds Medics remain second as they edged fourth-placed Stanningley at home, 1-0.

A defensive mistake proved the difference between the sides as Stanningley were unable to cope with a dangerous attack, a stretch for a low hard hit ball into the six-yard box being turned into their own goal.

Farnley Sports remain third and five points behind the leaders after a 2-0 win away at local rivals Grangefield with second-half goals from Shane Gaunt and a penalty from man of the match Sean Stevenson.

In a fiercely contested match, goalkeeper Phil Gill was sent off for Grangefield while Gaunt was also shown red 10 minutes from time for the visitors.

Meanwhile, in the Yorkshire Old Boys Shield quarter-finals, North Ferriby Athletic needed penalties following a 1-1 draw away at Drighlington.

Goalless after 90 minutes, Shane Sowden fired the hosts in front with a 25-yard effort before North Ferriby levelled just before half-time. They eventually booked their place in the last four, winning 6-5 on penalties.

North Ferriby will play Division One side Wortley in the semi-finals who booked their place with a 3-1 win away to Division Three outfit Horsforth St Margaret’s. Horsforth failed to convert their chances as Ash Skillington, Cody Doyle and Gary Rhodes all got on the scoresheet for Wortley.

In the other quarter-final an all-Premier League tie saw Rodillian lose 2-1 at home to Alwoodley.

In the Terry Marflitt Trophy second round, top-flight Wigton Moor saw off Division One side Amaranth, 2-0.

Beeston Juniors remain top of the Championship following a 3-1 win over bottom of the table Leeds Independent who are now four points adrift. St. Nicholas remain two points behind the leaders as they recorded a 3-1 home win over Morley Town with the hosts dropping just two points in their last 10 games.

Beeston St Anthony’s lost ground at the top as they were held 1-1 by Thornesians, while third-placed Leeds Medics Reserves also dropped points in a 1-1 draw away to Stanningley Reserves.

Nine goals were split 7-2 as Shire Academics heaped more misery on Old Batelians who have lost all of their last four games while Alwoodley Reserves won 2-0 at home to Collingham Juniors.

DIVSION FIVE Shire Academics III’s player-manager Ryan Austin was the hero as they toppled Leeds Medics IV in the Hodgson Cup second round.

Three league aboves, Medics cruised into a 2-0 lead only for Johnny Collin and Joe Platt to bring Academics level and force extra time.

Man of the match Mark Ollernshaw completed the comeback only for Chris Shepherd to equalise for Leeds Medics with the last kick of the game.

Penalties ensued with Ryan Austin converting the winning spot-kick as Shire Academics triumphed 5-4.

Calverley United moved to the summit of Division One with a 3-1 win over St Bedes, streching their winning streak to three games.

Grangefield Reserves remain a point behind with a game in hand as their clash with Colton Athletic was postponed.

Dewsbury Rangers scored late in added time to snatch a point from Wheelwright to keep their title hopes alive.

Taking a 3-2 lead late on, it looked like Wheelwright were on track for just their third win of the season only for Ryan Laidlaw to bring Dewsbury level in the seventh minute of added time.

Rothwell Reserves remain fourth and three points off the top as they won 2-1 away to Garforth Rangers.

In Division Two, Gildersome Spurs remain top after a 3-1 win away to Woodkirk Valley.

Old Centralians slumped to the bottom of the table on goal difference as they were heavily beaten 13-2 at home to promotion chasing Huddersfield YMCA.

Leeds City moved level on points with leaders Kippax Athletic in Division Three with a 12-0 win at home to struggling Middleton Park.

Despite a 3-2 defeat to Ealandians III, Leeds City Reserves remain two points clear at the top of Division Four.
