Yorkshire Amateur League: Champions Ealandians fall to their first league defeat of the campaign

Two goals from Chris Quinlan, including a scuffed penalty that still went in proved decisive with an injury-time reply from James Greenwood too little too late for Ealandians.

Elsewhere, East Ardsley Wanderers put up a brave fight against Stanningley Old Boys before falling to a 3-1 defeat in the Terry Marflitt Trophy quarter-finals. East Ardsley are second in Division Five – 68 league places lower than Stanningley who are third in the Premier – but the visitors were level at 1-1 until the 80th minute thanks to Harry Moxon’s equaliser. Eventually, goals from Tom Stewart, Shane Thompson and James Allen were enough to book Stanningley a semi-final with Farnley Sports.

In the second round, Alwoodley were 4-1 victors at home to Premier Division rivals Rodillian thanks to a double from Graham Shaw, a Tom Rawson header and an own goal. Francisco Matos netted for the visitors. Alwoodley will meet Farsley Celtic Juniors in the last eight.

Premier Division Leeds Medics & Dentists eased past Batelians 5-1 thanks to a brace from Niall Robinson plus a goal each from John Forrest, Jack Seccombe and Brad Chambers. Nathan Hallas notched for Batelians but Medics will now play Wigton Moor or Amaranth.

Beeston Juniors stayed top of the Championship thanks to a 4-3 triumph at home to fourth-bottom Morley Town AFC who led 3-0 in the first half. George Lazaro netted a last-minute winner to complete a superb fightback for Beeston whose Ryan Dawson notched a hat-trick. Marc Haley’s penalty and Jovan Kioseff’s double ultimately proved in vain for Beeston.

St Nicholas rose to second with a 2-1 triumph at home to third-bottom Shire Academics in a game moved to Fearnville. Daniel Fuller made it 1-0 to St Nick whose lead was doubled by an own goal. Daniel Gaskin was then sent off for Nicks who held on despite Shire’s Chris Godfrey netting in the 88th minute.

Beeston St Anthony’s moved fourth with a 2-1 defeat of second-bottom visitors Stanningley Old Boys Reserves. A Lee Nutton double won the day for Beeston with Daniel Sanderson’s strike failing to save the visitors.

Championship outfit Alwoodley Reserves progressed to the semi-finals of the Hancock Cup with a 7-1 win at Division Six side Centralians Reserves who led after 17 minutes through Mark Harrison. A Dan Whincup treble plus braces from Cori Henderson and Guy Cole eventually booked a semi final with Ealandians Reserves.

GRANGEFIELD OLD Boys Reserves made the most of Drighlington’s County Challenge Trophy adventure to move four points clear at the top of Division One on Saturday.

While Drig were booking a proud place in the competition’s last eight, Jack Kitson’s strike sent Grangefield on the way to a 3-2 victory at third-bottom Wheelwright Old Boys but not without drama.

Wheelwright were guilty of missing a penalty with the game goalless and then paid the price for having two players sent off.

Unbeaten Drig have three games in hand on Grangefield to claw back the gap.

There’s another one point back to Rothwell Reserves who moved third with a 5-2 triumph at home to second-bottom Colton Athletic.

A double from Danny Smith plus goals from Dean Dewing, Liam Connolly and Liam Bentley brought up the Rothwell nap hand with Jono Goodwin and Ben Vickers consoling Colton.

A depleted St Bedes remain eighth after being swamped 5-0 by hosts Dewsbury Rangers who moved fifth.

Bill Phethean, an own goal, a Michael Thompson penalty, and strikes from Jack Smith and Rob Smith gave Dewsbury a comfortable afternoon.

In Division Two, Churwell Lions jumped above opponents Woodkirk Valley into fourth with a 3-0 home victory.

A second-half brace from Kieran Williams plus a Ben Bastow strike saw Lions roar.

Morley Town AFC Reserves climbed to sixth after defeating second-bottom hosts Batelians Reserves 6-2.

Martin Ross hit a hat-trick including one penalty for Morley who were also aided by a Ben Dixon brace and James Howley strike. A Jamie Sands double provided solace for Batelians Res.

Sandal Wanderers dropped one place to seventh after losing 2-0 at third-placed Huddersfield YMCA whose Craig Burns and Kieran Lenihan struck.

A Division Three highlight was a four-timer for Andy Hume as FC Headingley moved out of the relegation zone with a 5-1 win at home to bottom club Middleton Park.
