Barnet 1 York City 3 Mills delight as York claim first league win

THE MINSTERMEN clinched their first win since returning to the Football League in style with a polished first-half showing helping them to triumph 3-1 against Barnet at Underhill - to the delight of boss Gary Mills.

City, who drew 2-2 at Morecambe in midweek after losing 3-1 in their opening League Two assignment of the season at home to Wycombe, enjoyed the perfect start and took the lead after just seven minutes.

Long-serving defender Danny Parslow was the marksman with a crisp finish and just nine minutes later, Gary Mills’ troops doubled their tally when Ashley Chambers struck with his second goal of the campaign.

The Bees pulled one back and gave themselves some hope on the half-hour with Jon Nurse finding the net from close range.

But the Minstermen restored their two-goal cushion on the stroke of half-time when Michael Coulson, who netted in the Capital One Cup clash at Doncaster a fortnight ago, fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

No further goals arrived after the break as York secured victory with a degree of comfort - their first in the Football League since January 10, 2004.

Mills said: ”It’s been a good couple of results away from home after the defeat at home last week and I thought we played well.

“I’m disappointed we haven’t got the clean sheet again. I thought the goal was sloppy so I’m disappointed with that, and delighted we got the third one on the stroke of half-time because I think that was massive.

“We had two or three other chances, but we’ve come away from home with three points which feels fantastic.”
