Women's Football: Leeds bounce back to rock Blackpool with a late winner

It took a late winner from Jasmine Saxton to seal a 1-0 victory for the visitors.

Just before half-time Blackpool had their best chance but shot narrowly wide. Just as the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw, Jasmine Saxton picked up the ball on the edge of the area cut inside and curled the ball in the top corner giving Leeds the vital victory.

Guiseley moved off the bottom of the Northern Premier League with only their second victory of the season, a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Loughborough Foxes.

Hemsworth are through to the West Riding League Shield semi-final after they thrashed Amaranth 9-1, thanks to a Katy Dewrow hat-trick, a brace from Helena Kieley and individual strikes from Amy Green, Nikki Needham, Kelsey Stones and Ebony Dennis. Spirited Amaranth made Hemsworth work hard for their win and were unlucky not to get a couple more goals themselves. Hemsworth will now face Brayton in their semi-final.

Bradford Park Avenue goalkeeper Molly Leaf kept a clean sheet with some spectacular saves in a relegation battle with Gledhow in the West Riding Premier Division. Bradford’s Sarah Huby, Sophie Mitchell and Annie Roberts were on target in a confident 3-0 victory.

Altofts moved up to second with a 4-2 win over Hepworth United, and Brighouse Athletic and Brayton Belles drew 0-0.

In Division One, Leeds Medics retained second position with a 2-2 draw at Bradford City who drop to fourth after Silsden beat Republica 3-0.

Farsley Celtic Reserves moved up to second in Division Two after a 2-0 victory over Tyersal, after goals from Ellie Prothero and a spectacular own goal from Tyersal’s Lauren Burnett.
