Women's Football: Dramatic late strike from Scott seals derby win for Vixens

A dramatic derby-day winner from Emily Scott sealed a stunning comeback for Guiseley Vixens, as they beat West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town 3-2 in the FAWPL Cup.

Former-Vixens striker Sarah Danby had put Town 2-0 up following Katie Nutter’s opener, but 16-year-old Ebony Njie and Nikki Berko drew the Vixens level before Scott’s late strike completed Guiseley’s revenge over Huddersfield for last season’s penalty defeat.

The women’s divisions also saw hat-trick’s galore, as Jodie Redgrave’s triple helped ease Brighouse into the FAWPL Cup Second Round, as Aimi Beresford and Charlotte Proud also helped see off ten-player Chester-Le-Street 5-1.

Despite a valiant performance, Leeds United’s Northern Division One struggles continued against promotion-chasing Liverpool Feds, as Sasha Rowe Roisin Havelin struck in the second half to beat Leeds 2-0 and send them into the relegation zone. A hat-trick each from Lucy Robinson and Lauren Swailes preserved Tingley Athletic’s perfect West Riding Premier Division start, overcoming Ashley Butler’s early opener to win 6-2 as Natalie Bell netted Avenue’s second-half consolation.

Yorkshire Amateur still stand at the summit despite dropping points for the first time after being held 1-1 at Brighouse Athletic, while Hepworth also remain unbeaten after seeing off Silsden Firsts 3-0.

The flawless First Division start for Ossett Town continued against Dewsbury Rangers, as Carly Doyle’s brace, along with Vicky Penney and Tina Toohey’s strikes, earned a 4-1 win. Farsley Celtic Reserves remain top, however, after trouncing Repbulica Internationale 7-1, while Leeds City edged Clifton Rangers 1-0. Despite conceding their first goal in the Second Division, Lower Hopton continued their perfect league start at Ripon City, with Emma Douglas, Hayley Maxwell and Louise Wilson netting in a 5-3 loss.

League leaders Middleton Athletic cruised to a 6-1 win over Boroughbridge to preserve their perfect start, whilst Ossett Town Development stormed to their first league win with a 5-0 thumping of Hebden Royd United.

A hat-trick of hat-tricks from Ikra Ali, Megan Medley and Henna Sheehan as well as Amina Ali’s strike sealed an emphatic 10-4 win over New Farnley for freescoring third division side Phoenix.

Tyersal’s Abbie Tate took home the match ball against her former club, Kirkstall Crusaders. Sophie Woodrup and Jamie Lukacs helped earn the league leaders a 6-1 win.

Elsewhere, the first round of the County Cup has finally been settled, with Brayton Belles edging their rescheduled match at Wetherby Athletic 3-2.
