Women's Football: Danby in at the double to keep the Vixens on top

The West Yorkshire derby between Leeds and Brighouse saw Whites keeper Beth Davies save a crucial first-half penalty to keep the scores at 1-1, after Eden Pedersen had opened the scoring for Leeds. This allowed goals from Jodie Hunter and Harriet Jakeman to seal a 3-1 win for Leeds, which leaves Brighouse on the edge of the relegation zone.

Leeds Medics and Dentists suffered their first Premier Division loss of the season after a brace from debutant Niamh Davis and a 25-yard Nic Holdsworth strike gained Brighouse Athletic Firsts a 3-2 win against the league leaders.

Tingley Athletic took advantage of Leeds’ slip up with a 7-1 win over Battyeford Belles, while Hepworth United and Hemsworth MW played out a cagey 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Bradford Park Avenue’s injury problems continued as one player suffered a knock in their match with Silsden.

Natalie Bell and Laura Wilkinson put Avenue 2-0 up before Silsden raced to a 3-2 second-half lead after Bradford’s injury. However, Bell was once again on hand to equalise before another Silsden goal on 90 minutes meant Avenue’s captain Sarah Huby had to score a last-minute equaliser to secure a hard-fought 4-4 draw.

Farsley Celtic Reserves went down to 10 players as an 88th-minute goal from Jodie Daly saw Yorkshire Amateurs snatch an important victory over Farsley, winning 1-0 in the top-two First-Division clash.

Point-less Hebden Royd United were demolished 7-0 by Brighouse Town Development, while Wetherby Athletic also crafted a seven-goal win by beating Tyersal 7-1.

Silsden Development grabbed their first Division Two win of the season by thumping Ossett Town Reserves 7-1, while Boroughbridge also gained their first win with a 2-0 victory over Farsley Celtic Development.

Skipton, meanwhile, battled out a 7-4 win over lowly Crossley to stay top of the league ahead of Leeds City, who climbed to second after beating Amaranth 4-1.

The huge Division Three wins keep coming for leaders Middleton Athletic, who demolished Brighouse Athletic A 10-1.

Elsewhere, Ilkley Town beat West Leeds 4-2 to stay in touch with the title-chasing pack, while Farsley Celtic A battled to a vital 5-3 win in their six-pointer with rock-bottom Kirkstall Crusaders.
