But how did the YEP’s Phil Hay rate the performances?

Andy Lonergan - Would probably have hoped to save the second goal and the penalty stemmed from his failure to gather an initial shot, albeit in wet conditions. 4/10

Luke Ayling - There were far more problems down the other side of the pitch but Christiansen’s defence never looked settled. 5/10

Pontus Jansson - Came under huge pressure and did not like the direct running which came at him. The ball refused to stick up front, increasing the strain on the back four. 5/10

Liam Cooper - In fairness to the centre-backs, they were left exposed against players with far more pace than them, with inevitable results. 5/10

Gaetano Berardi - Run ragged by Cavaleiro and his loss of possession led to the free-kick which Barry Douglas converted. Didn’t get much assistance but had a bad night. 4/10

Ronaldo Vieira - A lesson to be learned. Christiansen vented at the referee after his dismissal but both fouls deserved a booking and the second tackle was risky. 4/10

Kalvin Phillips - Wolves had so much space to work with in the first half and Christiansen’s midfield were constantly on their heels. Found a foothold after the break. 5/10

Gjanni Alioski - A fine finish and an instinctive finish, which was just what Leeds needed at the time. Isolated before the break but better after it. 6/10

Samuel Saiz - Not as safe in possession but yet again come up with the goods, not that Alioski’s finish counted for anything. Led the charge after the break until the red card killed it. 6/10

Pablo Hernandez - Needed to offer more support to Berardi defensively and didn’t get his foot on the ball properly until early in the second period. 5/10

Kemar Roofe - Fine in this position when Leeds have plenty of the ball but very hard for him to make an impact when Wolves are as dominant as they were before half-time. 5/10

Substitutes:

Caleb Ekuban (for Roofe, 67) - Credit to him. Did everything to make something of a lost cause and got on the end of a few chances. 6/10

Eunan O’Kane (for Hernandez, 67) - The substitutions were made with the best of intentions but with Leeds down to 10 men, they were always going to be more vulnerable. 5/10

Stuart Dallas (for Saiz, 77) - Probably time to start giving him more of a go. United were 4-1 down when he came on. 5/10

Subs (not used): Felix Wiedwald, Conor Shaughnessy, Matthew Pennington, Vurnon Anita.

Referee: Geoff Eltringham (Tyne and Wear) - The yellow cards shown to Vieira looked fair enough and he kept a lid on the game. 7/10
