West Yorkshire League – Unbeaten Beeston St Anthony’s go 10 points clear at top

Beeston St Anthony’s finished 2019 with a big 10-point lead after making it 13 wins from 14 outings in the West Yorkshire League’s Premier Division.

Joe Wood’s goal sent them on the way to a 2-0 success away to Robin Hood Athletic as Beeston maintained their unbeaten league record.

Nearest challengers are Horbury Town, who jumped up to second with a 2-1 victory at Knaresborough Town when Gibril Bojang netted on the stroke of half-time and Mohammed Sadiq came up with a 65th-minute winner.

Carlton Athletic moved up to ninth in the Premier with a convincing 4-0 home win over Boroughbridge. Anees Younis led the way with two goals with Andrew Payne also on target.

Disciplinary problems beset Sherburn White Rose as they remained rooted to the bottom despite goals by Joseph Fella and Keanu Bean in their home game with Newsome.

White Rose had three players sent-off as they lost 4-2.

Glasshoughton Rock’s promotion hopes suffered a big dent as they ended 2019 with a heavy defeat away to Rawdon Old Boys in Division One.

Going into the game in second place, Rock were hammered 6-1 by seventh-placed opponents. James Lister netted for the Glasshoughton team, but Craig Nicholls and Oliver Nightingale scored twice each and Lewis Nightingale was also on target for the winners.

Wetherby Athletic could not take full advantage of Rock’s slip as they stayed in fourth with a 2-2 home draw against Kirk Deighton Rangers, Anthony Walsh and Joe Gotts netting their goals.

Despite goals from Jacob Blackett and Kyle Pearson, Featherstone Colliery remain fourth from bottom in Division One after they went down 5-2 away to Aberford Albion.

East End Park slipped down a place to 12th after they were narrowly beaten 3-2 at home to Otley Town.

Pool were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline at home to Oxenhope Recreation who had Dan Scott (two), Sean Quinlan and Liam Bonner on target.

Swillington Saints were the big gainers in Division Two as they enjoyed a fine victory in the only game of the day to be played.

Matthew Marshall hit a hat-trick while David Bell, Danny Wiltshire and substitute Christopher Parkin were also on target in a 6-2 success at home to neighbours Rothwell.

The win lifted the Swillington team six places up the table into third position and with three games in hand on leaders Overthorpe Sports Club and only a five-point gap between the sides they are right in the thick of the promotion race now.

Headingley Reserves enjoyed their biggest league win of the season in Alliance Division One as they beat Otley Town Reserves 8-0. Scorers were Oliver Carter (three), Merlyn Andrews (two) and Jack Murray (two).

Jack Haigh, John Gallagher and Alan Laud all netted for Hall Green United Reserves, but were on the losing side as they were beaten 8-3 by Robin Hood Athletic Reserves who had Stephen Hancock (three), Corey Eaton (two), Paul Stafford (two) and Philip Mitchell on target.
