West Yorkshire League - Hall Green’s eye on top two after their Sherburn White Rose clipping

All the goals were scored in the first half with Jack Haigh (2) and Josh Craig scoring for United and Jordan Dimuka netting for the hosts.

The result left Sherburn third-bottom in the Premier and Hall Green third, just two points adrift of top two, Field and Ilkley Town whose fixtures at fourth-placed Beeston St Anthony’s and Robin Hood Athletic respectively were postponed.

The missed matches also gave Horbury Town, in fifth, and six-place Carlton Athletic to strengthen their jockeying position outside the top four.

Horbury Town were given a good run for their money at second-bottom Huddersfield Amateur before edging the contest 3-2.

Matthew Johnson, Luke Playford and Neil Samardzija scored the goals for Town.

Warren Carr hit a goals brace and Andrew Payne also found the back of the net as Carlton saw off visiting Hunslet 3-1.

Elsewhere, Boroughbridge came away with the local bragging rights after defeating neighbours Knaresborough Town, 3-0 after leading by a solitary strike at half-time.

Ashley Atkinson, Phillip Wix and substitute Daniel Berry chucked in their two-penneth with a goal apiece for the victorious hosts.

Two goals in the second half turned the dynamics of Whitkirk Wanderers’ home tie with Headingley AFC.

The sides were goalless at half-time but five minutes after the restart Jamie Bywater broke the deadlock for the visitors and Antony Friend made certain of the three points with a second goal eight minutes from time.

Four points now separate seventh-placed Headingley in the table from Whitkirk, in 11th.

In Division One, Wyke Wanderers put up a mighty fight before being edged out by leaders Rawdon Old Boys, 2-1.

Kai Green gave Wanderers hope of at least claiming a point but on-song scorers Lewis and Oliver Nightingale had other ideas.

Fourth-placed Aberford Albion closed the gap on Oxenhope Recreation, in third, to just a single point with a 1-0 win over Pool courtesy of a Joshua Haigh strike.

Albion have Otley Town to thank, in part at least, for their improving position on the league ladder after they held visiting Oxenhope to a 2-2 draw.

Brandon Hammond and Harry Hawkins were the talk of the town in terms of goals for Otley, while Sam Murphy and Keann Shaw showed sure-footedness to maintain matchday parity.

East End Park dug deep and were rewarded with a 3-1 home win over Featherstone Colliery who belied their bottom-club status at times. Second-bottom G&C Hartshead also flew in the face of league standings with a 4-2 home win over Kirk Deighton Rangers thanks to goals from Joel Farrer, Jack Rodgerson, Tom Smith and substitute Nathan Willoughby.

Shelley, meanwhile, out-gunned visitors Wetherby Athletic, 3-1, after leading by two clear goals at half-time.

Kellingley Welfare kept their 100 per cent start in Division Two going with a 3-2 win at home to Rothwell Juniors First.

Welfare have 15 points and a healthy plus goals difference but were never fully comfortable against a Rothwell side that had gone two up thanks to first-half goals from Jack Griffiths and Connor Wilson.

Brendan Cummings pegged one back and second-half substitute Rob Thomas turned the tide with a brace of goals, the first of which he tucked away within a minute of coming on to the field. Second-placed Laund Hill First saw off Old Centralians First 3-1. George Doyle (2) and sub’ Oliver Dunne netted for Laund Hill with Isaac Collier claiming Centralians’ goal.

Tim Robertson (2) and Patrick Wilkinson found the back of the net for hosts Swillington Saints Welfare First but it wasn’t enough to deny Brighouse Sports a 5-3 victory. Thomas Robinson led the way with a hat-trick and there were further goals for Liam Chippendale and Jake Broadbent.

Elsewhere, Harrogate Railway Athletic came away from Howden Clough with a 2-0 win under their belt to continue their escape from the division’s bottom two, Howden Clough and Altofts.

In Alliance Division 1, leaders Robin Hood Athletic Reserves made it four from four with a 2-1 win at Oxenhope Rec Reserves, while second-placed Field Reserves thumped basement side Huddersfield Amateur Reserves, 8-1.
